A missing tooth or set of teeth is a problem that you will likely have to deal with for the rest of your life. Another tooth/set of teeth will not instantly grow back, which leaves you with a gap that needs to be fixed. Dental implants offer our patients, at Tumwater Family Dentistry, a permanent solution when faced with the problem of missing teeth.
Dental implants are small titanium rods that have been surgically implanted in the jaw or skull. The titanium rods are used to securely hold a dental crown, bridge, or denture into place.
Over the years, dental implants have become more and more popular. This is because dental implants have a long lifespan. Once the entire process is complete, a dental implant can last anywhere from 25 to 30 years – if properly maintained and cleaned. That is almost double the lifespan of dental bridges or dentures.
If you choose to have your missing teeth replaced with a dental implant, you will have to undergo a lengthy process. First, we must prep the area for the dental implant, which can involve having you undergo a bone graft. After the area has been prepped, we will surgically implant the titanium rod into your jaw bone or skull. The healing process for this step can take several months.
Once the titanium rod is securely implanted, we will then place the crown, bridge, or denture into your mouth. From start to finish, the entire process can take anywhere from several weeks to several months.
Due to the complex nature of the dental implant process, it is important to choose a dentist who is experienced with this procedure. Tumwater Family Dentistry is not only experienced with dental implant procedures, but we are also committed to providing all of our patients with a warm, comfortable environment.
We understand that the dental implant process can be painful and intimidating. We do everything we can to make sure you are comfortable during your appointment. We offer nitrous oxide sedation at no additional cost.
It is also important to us that our patients be fully informed about the process before they begin. Before we start the dental implant process, we will explain the procedure to you and answer any questions you may have regarding dental implants. This helps ease our patients’ anxiety and make them feel involved with their dental care.
